AMROC Group Chooses Hands Up For Downs as Charity of the Year.

Leading mechanical and electrical contractor AMROC Group have chosen Hands Up For Downs to be one of their Charities of the Year.

As a registered charity affiliated with the Down’s Syndrome Association, Hands Up For Downs (HUfD) was set up by local parents in 2014 to support children and families in the Swansea Bay Area.

One of the people involved in the charity is Ross Adams who called in to thank the team at AMROC for choosing the charity.

“My son Archie was born with Down’s Syndrome,” said Ross, “and as a family, we will be forever grateful to HUfD for the help and support they provide, and I am thrilled that AMROC Group have chosen them to be one of their Charities of the Year.”

With over 47,000 people in the UK having Down Syndrome, as well as an average of 1 in every 1,000 babies born with Down Syndrome each year, more and more families are in need of the support and help provided by charities and other organisations.

“After meeting Ross at a fundraising event and listening to his story and the wonderful work the charity does to support children with Down Syndrome across the city, we were only too happy to select them as one of our Charities of the Year,” said Jason Quinn, owner of AMROC Group.

With a golf day arranged for the summer, the team at AMROC will also be working on other fundraising activities to raise as much money as possible, kicking off with ‘odd sock day’ to raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome.

“As a representation of the 3 strands of Chromosome 21, which just so happens to look like a pair of socks,” said Ross, “Odd-sock-day as it is known is celebrated internationally as a way to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and is celebrated on the 21st March each year, so we were delighted that AMROC Group took part and Archie and I were proud to call into their offices for a quick photo.”
